Ten nights of Sri Lanka's grandest spectacle: torch-lit processions winding from the Temple of the Sacred Tooth through Kandy's streets — whip-crackers, fire dancers, Kandyan drummers, and scores of elephants in embroidered, illuminated cloaks, the grandest tusker carrying the golden relic casket. The processions build night by night to the Randoli Perahera of the final five nights, which is when to aim for.
