Dobrovo is the de facto capital of the Brda hills, Slovenia's wine country wedged between the Soča valley and the Italian border, and it's a village rather than a town: a castle, a handful of streets, roughly 368 people. The draw is the landscape and what's produced on it — rolling vineyards, cherry orchards, and small producers making Rebula and other native whites, with tastings and cellar visits the main reason to base yourself here rather than just pass through.
Be honest: there's little in the way of urban amenities, nightlife or shopping, and you'll need a car to get the most out of the region, since the appeal is scattered across surrounding hamlets rather than concentrated in Dobrovo itself. It's workable as a day trip or stopover from Trieste Airport, about forty minutes away, which is how most visitors arrive.
