Fellbach is Stuttgart's wine-growing neighbour to the northeast, a town of around 44,000 that runs straight into the city's edge but keeps its own Swabian character. Its reputation rests on the vineyards of the Kappelberg, where local growers produce Trollinger, Lemberger and Riesling, and on the autumn Fellbacher Herbst, a long-running wine and harvest festival that fills the town centre. The Schwabenlandhalle brings in a steady stream of conference and event visitors, which is why many people here are on business rather than holiday.
Be honest: outside festival season Fellbach is essentially a prosperous commuter suburb, pleasant and tidy but quiet in the evenings, with most nightlife and big-name sights a short ride away in Stuttgart. The S-Bahn and Stadtbahn links into central Stuttgart are good, and Stuttgart Airport (STR) is a manageable drive. With only a handful of hotels in town, options are limited, so book early around trade fairs and the Herbst. Stay near the town centre and the Schwabenlandhalle for walkable restaurants, vineyard trails and quick train connections into Stuttgart.
