Hotels in Hathersage

Hathersage is a Peak District village best known as classic Jane Eyre territory — Charlotte Brontë stayed nearby and used it as the model for Morton, and the churchyard here claims Little John's grave. With a population of just over 2,000, it's small and geared firmly towards walkers: Stanage Edge looms above the village and draws climbers and hikers year-round, and the outdoor swimming pool is a genuine local institution.

There isn't much to do here beyond walking, eating and sleeping, and it can feel sleepy or even shut-down outside peak hiking season and weekends. It makes a sensible, quieter base for exploring Chatsworth House and Peveril Castle, both a short drive off, rather than a destination for nightlife or shopping. With only 8 hotels listed, options are limited, so book early for weekends. Stay in the village centre if you want to walk to the pool and pubs without needing a car.
