This is Lagoa in the Algarve, not the Azores island of the same name, the municipality behind Carvoeiro's clifftop coves and the world-famous Benagil sea cave, whose ceiling opening lets sunlight into a chamber accessible only by boat or kayak. Benagil itself is a hamlet of barely sixty people, and its beach has no toilets, no lifeguards and no cafes, so trips are usually organised from Carvoeiro or Lagoa town nearby.
The old fishing port at Carvoeiro has grown into a low-rise, cliff-hugging resort strip, while Lagoa's own centre stays quieter and more residential. Benagil gets seriously overcrowded with boat and kayak tours in summer, and the cave is often busier than the photos suggest. Stay in Carvoeiro for the closest access to the caves and the town's clifftop beaches.
