Lahinch is Ireland's surf capital, a two-kilometre crescent of Blue Flag sand on Liscannor Bay backed by a promenade of surf shacks, cafes and traditional pubs. Established in 1892, the Old Course at Lahinch Golf Club is regularly ranked among the world's top links courses and has hosted the Irish Open, while the adjoining Castle Course gives less experienced golfers a run at the same dunes.

Surf schools operate off the main beach year-round, taking advantage of reliable Atlantic swell that draws surfers from right across Europe. It is small and seasonal, so outside summer many places wind down and the weather can turn properly wild fast. Stay along the seafront promenade for beach and pub access, and to walk to both golf courses.
