Lescar sits just west of Pau on the edge of Béarn, a small town whose main claim is its cathedral, Notre-Dame de Lescar, with Romanesque mosaic floors depicting hunting scenes that are genuinely worth the detour. Otherwise this is a working town rather than a tourist draw: light industry, a Sunday market, and proximity to Pau-Pyrénées airport, which is really why most visitors end up here. Be honest: there's little to fill more than half a day, and evenings are quiet once the cathedral and old quarter have been seen.
Its position on the Pau-Bayonne road and rail line makes it a practical, cheaper alternative to staying in Pau itself, especially if you're flying in or out or heading toward the Pyrenees. With six hotels listed, choice is limited but functional. Stay here if you want easy airport access and don't mind a short hop into Pau for dinner and nightlife; stay in Pau instead if evening atmosphere matters to you.
