Hotels in Lewes

Compare prices from multiple booking suppliers and find the best hotel deal in Lewes.

Lewes is an old county town in East Sussex, built up a steep hill around its Norman castle, with a jumble of medieval and Georgian streets, antique shops and second-hand bookshops rather than chain retail. It's known nationally for its Bonfire Night celebrations on 5 November, when the town fills with flaming torches, burning effigies and rival bonfire societies parading through streets otherwise geared towards quiet browsing and pub lunches.

Be honest: there's not much to do here beyond the castle, the historic centre and walking the surrounding Downs, and it can feel sleepy outside of Bonfire season and the Glyndebourne opera run in summer. It's a short train ride from Brighton, so Brighton Pier and the Royal Pavilion are easily reached for a day out if Lewes itself runs thin. With only eight hotels listed, choice is limited, so book early around Bonfire Night and Glyndebourne dates. Stay near the town centre, close to the castle and high street, so you can walk everywhere without needing a car.
