Hotels in Luxor

Luxor is built on top of ancient Thebes, and nowhere on earth has a greater concentration of pharaonic monuments: Karnak and Luxor temples on the east bank of the Nile, with the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple across the river. It is a working Egyptian town of touts, ferries and heat as well as an open-air museum; go in with patience and it rewards you.

In August 2027 it adds an extraordinary event, with totality near Luxor lasting around six minutes, among the longest of any eclipse this century. Stay on the east bank corniche for the classic Nile-view hotels, or a west bank guesthouse for quiet; book eclipse dates a year or more out.
