Hotels in New Cairo

New Cairo is a planned satellite city built from the desert over the past two decades to relieve pressure on central Cairo, and it looks it: wide roads, gated compounds, shopping malls like Cairo Festival City, and the American University in Cairo's campus, rather than anything resembling old Egypt. It's popular with business travellers, expats and Gulf visitors who want modern apartments, golf courses and quiet over character, and it works well as a base if you're here for a conference, a wedding at one of the compound venues, or family visiting AUC.

Be honest: there's little to actually see or do on foot, no historic core, and you'll need a car or taxi for everything, including reaching the Baron Empain Palace or the churches and markets of old Heliopolis. It's roughly 30-40 minutes from Cairo International Airport depending on traffic, which cuts both ways. Stay near Cairo Festival City or the AUC area for the easiest access to restaurants, malls and transport links.
