Staying in Oyama
Oyama is a small town in Shizuoka Prefecture at the eastern foot of Mount Fuji, and its claim on visitors is Fuji Speedway, the circuit with one of motorsport's longest straights, which hosts the 6 Hours of Fuji endurance round — on a clear day the mountain looms over the track like a painted backdrop.
The town itself is quiet rural Japan. Most race visitors stay in neighbouring Gotemba, around ten minutes away, which has business hotels, onsen and a famous outlet mall, or push on to the Hakone hot-spring towns; Tokyo is roughly 90 minutes away. Book Gotemba early for race weekend — its hotel stock is modest.
