Hotels in Fujiyoshida

Fujiyoshida is the town at the base of Mount Fuji, and that proximity is the entire reason to come: the Chureito Pagoda shot, with the mountain framed behind a five-storey pagoda and cherry blossoms or autumn colour depending on season, has made this one of the most photographed views in Japan. It's also the traditional starting point for the Yoshida Trail, the most popular of the Fuji climbing routes, so in climbing season the town fills with hikers gearing up or coming down.

Outside the pagoda viewpoint and trailhead, Fujiyoshida itself is a modest, workaday town with limited nightlife and dining, not a destination in its own right. Weather also rules everything here — Fuji is frequently cloud-covered, and no amount of planning guarantees a clear view. Stay close to the Chureito Pagoda or the Yoshida Trail trailhead if the mountain and the climb are why you're here, since that convenience matters more than anything else the town offers.
