About Cleveland Browns vs. Houston Texans
Sunday afternoon football on the shore of Lake Erie, with kickoff timed for the early slate of the NFL calendar. Fans start gathering well before the early afternoon start, filling the lots and nearby bars for a few hours of tailgating before the gates open. By November, this is cold-weather football in earnest, with jackets, gloves and the kind of grey lake-effect sky that becomes part of the day itself. Divisional bragging rights aside, it is a straightforward AFC matchup that draws a home crowd looking for a mid-season win.
Where to stay nearby
Cleveland itself is the obvious base, with the largest range of hotels and a walk of about a kilometre to the stadium, making it easy to arrive on foot and skip parking altogether. Parma, roughly 11km out, and Cleveland Heights, about 12km away, both offer a smaller pool of hotels and a short drive into downtown on game day. Either of the outer towns works well if central options are full or pricier, though you should allow extra time for traffic and parking near the lakefront before kickoff.

About Cleveland Browns
The Browns were founded in 1946 in the All-America Football Conference and named after their first head coach, Paul Brown, whose innovations — including the modern playbook and full-time coaching staff — shaped how the sport is run. Cleveland joined the NFL in 1950 and won multiple championships in the pre-Super Bowl era of the 1950s and '60s, built around fullback Jim Brown, still regarded as one of the greatest players in league history.
The Browns have never reached a Super Bowl. The original franchise relocated to Baltimore in 1996 to become the Ravens, but by league agreement Cleveland kept the Browns' name and history, and a reactivated team returned to the field in 1999.
Cleveland Browns records & quirks
- Jim Brown's 12,312 career rushing yards stood as the NFL record for over two decades.
- His 1,863 rushing yards in 1963 is still the franchise record and the NFL's oldest rushing mark.
- Brown led the league in rushing a record eight times in his nine pro seasons.
- Cleveland's longest streak of consecutive road wins is seven games, reached three separate times.
