About Caribbean Premier League 2026 — Guyana

Twenty20 cricket in its most carnival-flavoured form, played under lights on a Thursday evening when the working week gives way to a few hours of sixes, sledging and soca between overs. The Caribbean Premier League draws a regional crowd rather than a purely local one, and fans travel between islands to follow their franchise through the group stage.

Expect a fast, loud, family-friendly atmosphere rather than the hush of a Test match, with music filling every break in play. A Thursday fixture tends to pull a slightly younger, after-work crowd than a weekend game.

History

Founded for the inaugural 2013 season, the Guyana Amazon Warriors are the great nearly-men turned champions of the Caribbean Premier League, the competition Cricket West Indies created that year to succeed the Caribbean Twenty20. For a decade the Warriors were the tournament's most consistent side yet could not get over the line, losing a string of finals before finally being crowned champions in 2023, beating the Trinbago Knight Riders at their own Providence Stadium to end a ten-year wait.

They have reached more finals than any other franchise, returning as runners-up in both 2024 and 2025. Their home, Providence Stadium, sits just outside the capital Georgetown and was built for the 2007 World Cup; on match nights it becomes one of the loudest and most partisan grounds in the league, the Warriors' vocal support turning it into a genuine fortress under the lights.
