Staying in Adeje
Adeje is a Tenerife municipality that most visitors know only by its coastal district, Costa Adeje, the island's glossiest resort strip of purpose-built hotels, marina and man-made beaches facing the Atlantic. Inland lies the actual old town, a quieter agricultural settlement in the shadow of the mountains that most package tourists never see and that has little to detain them anyway.
The pull here is guaranteed sun and warmth even in winter, thanks to the volcanic mass of Teide blocking cloud from the north, plus easy access to Tenerife Sur airport, a short transfer rather than a proper journey. Be honest: this is manufactured resort infrastructure, not a characterful town, and the beaches are decent but not the island's best. It works well as a base for hiking or driving up to Teide, a genuinely spectacular contrast to the coast below.
