Staying in Anstruther
Anstruther is a working fishing harbour on Fife's East Neuk coast, still landing shellfish and best known nationally for its fish and chip shop, which draws queues out the door in summer. The old town is a tight cluster of harbourside cottages and stone lanes, pleasant for an afternoon but modest in scale — this is a small place, with a population barely over three thousand, not a resort.
The Scottish Fisheries Museum on the harbour is the one proper attraction beyond the coastal walking and boat trips out to the Isle of May for puffins and seals. There's little nightlife and few sights to fill more than a day or two, so most visitors use it as a quiet base rather than a destination in itself.
