Hotels in Bergerac

Bergerac is a mid-sized Dordogne town with a genuinely pretty medieval core: half-timbered houses, two statues of Cyrano (who never actually lived here, as the town cheerfully admits) and flat-bottomed gabarre boats running trips on the river.

It sits at the heart of its own wine country, with sweet Monbazillac just across the water, and its airport makes it a common gateway to the Dordogne. A Tour de France stage finish brings the town's biggest crowds of the year. Stay in the old town near the port for the best of it, or take a countryside chambre d'hôtes among the vines and drive in.
