Hotels in Boksburg

Boksburg is a gold-rush town turned East Rand suburb, its lake formed almost by accident when a mining commissioner's empty reservoir, mocked as White's Folly, filled overnight in an 1889 flashflood and has anchored the town ever since. Boksburg Lake now has lawns, boating and walking paths, and Wild Waters water park and the East Rand Mall, attached to the country's largest Pick n Pay Hypermarket, cover the rest of a visit.

Be honest: this is an industrial mining town near an airport, not a tourist destination, and crime is a genuine concern, with police naming specific hotspots around old mining land. Most travellers are here for one night before or after a flight from OR Tambo, twenty minutes away. Stay in Sunward Park, a leafy, quieter suburb with guesthouses near Carnival City and the main roads out to the airport.
