Fujikawaguchiko sits on Lake Kawaguchi, the most accessible of the Fuji Five Lakes and the classic base for viewing Mount Fuji's near-symmetrical cone reflected in the water. The postcard shot is the Chureito Pagoda across in Fujiyoshida, a five-storied 1963 memorial framed by the mountain and, in spring, cherry blossom. The town became an unlikely overtourism case study in 2024 when crowds photographing Fuji behind a roadside Lawson convenience store got so disruptive that officials strung up a black screen to block the view.

Onsen ryokan with mountain-facing baths are the main reason to stay rather than day-trip from Tokyo, and the lake itself has cycling paths and a ropeway. This is a resort town built around a single view, quiet and rural once you're off the main lookout points. Stay on the north shore near Kawaguchiko Station for ropeway access and the clearest sightlines to Fuji.
