Hohenstein-Ernstthal is a small Saxon town between Chemnitz and Zwickau that punches wildly above its weight for one weekend a year, when the Sachsenring hosts the German motorcycle Grand Prix and a couple of hundred thousand fans descend on its hillsides. The town itself is a quiet place of textile-era streets, otherwise best known as the birthplace of the novelist Karl May.

Local beds are counted in the dozens, so MotoGP visitors either camp — a huge, well-organised part of the Sachsenring experience — or stay in Chemnitz or Zwickau, each around 20–30 minutes away with race-weekend shuttle and rail connections. Book early regardless; this corner of Saxony fills up.
