Staying in Lalinde
Lalinde sits on the Dordogne river in the Bergerac wine country, a working bastide town rather than a postcard-perfect one — you come here as a base for canoeing the river and driving out to the bigger draws of Périgord Pourpre, not for Lalinde itself. Be honest: the town centre is modest, with a Monday market and a handful of restaurants rather than a wealth of things to do after dark, and it lacks the immediate charm of Domme or Beynac further along the valley.
What it has is position: it's roughly midway between Bergerac and Sarlat, close to the château-dotted stretch of the Dordogne and the Bastides villages, and canoe outfitters here put you straight on the water. Stay close to the riverfront near the old bridge, where you're within walking distance of the market square and can watch canoes pass while planning day trips out.
Typical weather
October here averages 14°C, with around 64 mm of rain across the month.
November here averages 8°C, with around 72 mm of rain across the month.
