Monbazillac is a small commune in the Dordogne, known almost entirely for one thing: the sweet, botrytised white wine that carries its name and is produced across the surrounding vineyards. The Château de Monbazillac, a sixteenth-century pile overlooking the vine-covered slopes, is the visual anchor and the reason most people stop here at all — it's worth the detour for the view and the cellar tours alone.

Be honest: with a population around a thousand, this isn't a town with much of an independent life beyond wine tourism, and there's little to occupy you after a château visit and a tasting or two. It works best as a day-trip base for exploring the Dordogne's vineyards rather than a destination in itself. We list 13 hotels here, mostly small and rural. Stay near the château if you want vineyard views from your window; base yourself in nearby Bergerac instead if you want restaurants and things to do in the evening.
