Hotels in Murat

Murat is a small market town in the Cantal, built from the dark volcanic stone of the Auvergne and stacked below a rocky outcrop crowned with a statue of the Virgin, the Rocher de Bonnevie. Be honest: the town itself is modest, with a compact old quarter and limited restaurant variety outside peak hiking and ski seasons, and it can feel very quiet off-season.

The Wednesday market and surrounding cheese-making villages (Cantal and Salers country) are the local draws. Stay in the old town near the market square if you want walking access to shops and cafés; if you're here to ski or hike, prioritize hotels with parking, since you'll be driving out most days.
