Hotels in Peacehaven

Peacehaven is a cliff-top town between Brighton and Newhaven that exists largely because of a 1910s land-sale scheme by developer Charles Neville, who originally marketed it as Anzac-on-Sea before a naming competition produced the current name. The result is a sprawling grid of bungalows and straight streets that critics have long called a planning mistake, and be honest: there is no historic centre and little to linger over in town itself.

Its real assets are the setting and the location. The Greenwich Meridian crosses the coast here, marked by a monument on the clifftop, and an undercliff path runs along the white chalk towards Saltdean and Rottingdean, though the shoreline below is rocky rather than sandy. With only a handful of places to stay, stay near the seafront end of town for cliff walks and the quickest buses along the coast road into Brighton.
