Hotels in Saas-Fee

Saas-Fee is a small, car-free village of around 1,600 people in Switzerland's Valais, set in a bowl of glaciers and ringed by more than a dozen peaks over 4,000 metres, the reason it has long been sold as the "Pearl of the Alps." Vehicles stay in a car park at the village entrance and you get around on foot or by electric taxi, which keeps the old larch-wood chalets and narrow lanes genuinely quiet.

It is known for high-altitude skiing on the Fee Glacier, reached partly by the Metro Alpin underground funicular, with a revolving restaurant at Mittelallalin near the top. It is expensive, nightlife is modest compared with Zermatt, and getting here means a postbus ride up from Visp rather than a direct train. Glacier retreat has also made the famous summer skiing less dependable than it once was. Stay in the village centre near the main lift stations so you can walk to the slopes without hauling gear across town.
