Staying in Davos
Davos is a high alpine town in Graubünden — at around 1,560 metres among the highest towns in Europe — strung along its valley between Davos Dorf and Davos Platz. It wears three hats: ski and mountain resort, host of the World Economic Forum each January, and home of the Spengler Cup, the world's oldest club ice hockey tournament, played at HC Davos's ice stadium in the days between Christmas and New Year.
Spengler week is festive and busy, and it coincides with peak ski season, so book months ahead. Stay in Platz for the stadium, restaurants and most of the hotels; Dorf is quieter and handy for the Parsenn cable car; Klosters is the neighbourly fallback.
