Hotels in Shunyi

Shunyi is a district on Beijing's northeastern edge, built up largely around its proximity to Beijing Capital International Airport rather than around any historic core. It's home to a sizeable expat and diplomatic community, drawn by international schools and lower-density housing than central Beijing offers, and that shapes the district's feel: more suburban, more villa compounds, fewer of the hutongs and street life travelers come to Beijing for.

Be honest: there isn't much reason to base yourself here unless you have specific business, school, or flight-related reasons, since the Forbidden City and the main museum and nightlife districts are a proper drive away. The UCCA Center for Contemporary Art is a genuine draw if you're into art, worth building a half-day around. Stay near the airport if you have an early flight or a layover, and otherwise treat Shunyi as a day trip from a more central base.
