The Caves de Chartreuse here, where the monks' famously secret liqueur is aged, include some of the longest liqueur cellars in the world and can be visited. Beyond that it is a pleasant, unflashy gateway town at the foot of the Chartreuse massif, about 25 minutes by train from Grenoble.
