Hotels near Saint Francis Xavier Church

Ionic columns hold up a pale stone portico on Upper Gardiner Street, and on a bright morning the pediment above them throws a crisp line of shadow across the steps. Saint Francis Xavier Church is a Neoclassical building on Dublin's north side, built for the Jesuits and dedicated to Francis Xavier, the Jesuit missionary whose name it carries. Its columned, temple-like front stands out among the Georgian brick of the street around it, and it rewards a pause on the pavement opposite. Look for the measured spacing of the columns and the clean, unfussy lines of the pediment above them.
