Hotels near St. George's Church, Dublin

A slender stone spire rises over Hardwicke Place on Dublin's north side, standing above a deep Ionic portico whose pediment and columns give the Georgian streets around it a formal centrepiece. Francis Johnston, the architect behind several of the city's handsome classical buildings, designed St. George's Church, and the spire, layered with columns and tapering stages, is the detail that catches the eye on the north city skyline. The building has a documented place in Dublin's social history: Arthur Wellesley, later the Duke of Wellington, married Kitty Pakenham here. The church is officially closed, so this page offers no visiting details and no description of the interior. The surrounding streets of brick terraces and fanlit doorways remain part of the Georgian character of this quarter of the city. Stay in Dublin.
