Hotels in Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro

Santa Teresa is the hillside neighbourhood Rio de Janeiro's artists and intellectuals claimed decades ago and have never fully left — a series of steep cobbled streets climbing the Morro above the city, lined with colonial mansions housing alternative galleries, boutique pousadas, the Chácara do Céu museum and bar terraces that face the entire bay of Guanabara. The restored bonde (tram) connects to downtown. Cooler, quieter and considerably more interesting than Ipanema or Copacabana — for travellers who want the city's creative spirit and its history over its beach life, Santa Teresa is the neighbourhood that never disappoints.
