Staying in Chertsey
Chertsey is a small Surrey market town on the south bank of the Thames, and most people who stay here are really after somewhere else. The town itself has a long history, centred on a once-powerful Benedictine abbey founded in the seventh century, but only fragments of it survive. What remains is a modest high street, some handsome Georgian buildings and the elegant eighteenth-century Chertsey Bridge.
This is commuter-belt Surrey, hemmed in by the M25 and M3 and close enough to Heathrow that aircraft noise and road traffic are part of the backdrop, so it suits a practical base far better than a destination break. Stay near the town centre or the riverside by Chertsey Bridge for walkable pubs and Thames paths, with quick road access to Thorpe Park, Windsor and the airport.
Typical weather
