Staying in Doha
Most visitors meet Doha on a Qatar Airways stopover, and a day or two is genuinely well spent. The Museum of Islamic Art is the standout — a Pei-designed building on its own peninsula with a superb collection — while the National Museum's desert-rose architecture and the rebuilt but atmospheric Souq Waqif (spices, falcons, shisha cafés) fill the rest.
The Corniche serves up the West Bay skyline across the water. Honesty: summer heat is brutal, alcohol is confined to hotel bars, and the city is spread out with taxis doing most of the work, though the metro is modern and cheap. Stay in West Bay for tower hotels and views, or around Msheireb to walk to the souq and museums.
