Staying in Hong Kong
Hong Kong compresses a lot into little space: the skyline from Victoria Peak or the Star Ferry, dim sum institutions, market streets in Mong Kok, and — the bit that surprises people — genuinely wild hiking like the Dragon's Back within an hour of Central. The catch is hotel rooms, which are famously small for the money; manage expectations at any price point.
The MTR makes the whole territory easy, and the Star Ferry across the harbour remains the world's best-value commute. Stay in Tsim Sha Tsui on the Kowloon side for harbour views and better rates, or Central and Sheung Wan for restaurants, bars and the escalator up into SoHo — paying more for less room, but the best location.
