Hotels in Luz-Saint-Sauveur

Luz-Saint-Sauveur sits in the Pyrenees at the junction of the Gavarnie and Barèges valleys, and it functions mainly as the practical base for people heading up to the Cirque de Gavarnie or onto the ski slopes of Luz-Ardiden and Barèges. The town itself is small and unglamorous — a fortified church, a Wednesday market, some spa-town remnants from its nineteenth-century thermal heyday — rather than a destination in its own right.

Be honest: outside ski season and the summer hiking window, much of it is quiet to the point of being shut, and the architecture won't win prizes. What it does have is genuine mountain access without the price inflation of bigger resorts, plus thermal baths at nearby Barèges and a decent via ferrata and rafting scene in summer. Stay in the town centre near the church if you want to walk to restaurants and the Wednesday market without a car.
