Morges sits on Lake Geneva a short hop from Lausanne, and it trades on exactly that: lakeside promenades, views across to the French Alps, and a much quieter, more manageable pace than its bigger neighbour. It's known locally for its February tulip festival, when the château gardens fill with a few million bulbs, and for the château itself, a stout medieval pile that now houses a military and toy museum.

Outside that window it's a sleepy market town of vineyards and small streets, with wine-growing villages like Vufflens and the Lavaux terraces within easy reach. Be honest: there isn't much nightlife or shopping depth here, and the hotel choice is genuinely limited, with only a handful of properties to pick from. It works best as a calmer, cheaper base for exploring the lake region while dipping into Lausanne or Geneva by train. Stay as close to the lakefront as you can manage — the views and the walk into the old town justify it.
