Hotels near Castleknock Castle

Broken stone walls crown a grassy mound above Castleknock, the remnant of a keep the Normans raised on high ground west of Dublin. The castle was built for Hugh Tyrrel, who was granted these lands under Hugh de Lacy, and for generations it served as the Tyrrel family's fortified seat. Much of the medieval stronghold was lost long ago. What stands now is a ruin: fragments of masonry on their earthwork, weathered and roofless, with enough height left to show why its builders chose this rise. The remains stand within the grounds of Castleknock College. Stay near Dublin Airport (DUB).
