Hotels near Stanely Castle

Grey rubble walls rise straight out of the water at Stanely, where the castle stands in Stanely Reservoir and its reflection shivers whenever wind crosses the surface. The building is a stone tower house, its tall walls giving it a watchful, defensive face. The reservoir was formed around the tower, so on calm days the stonework seems to float. Stanely Castle is a scheduled monument, and this is a place to admire from the shore rather than explore inside. The slopes of the Gleniffer Braes rise behind the reservoir, south of Paisley, making a fine backdrop on a clear evening. Glasgow Airport serves the area for visitors flying in.
