Hotels near St Matthew's Church

St Matthew's Church in Paisley sets flowing modern ornament against the pointed forms of the Gothic tradition. The building speaks two architectural languages at once: the upright lines and lancet shapes of English Gothic, and the sinuous, organic detail of Art Nouveau, worked together into a single confident design. That pairing is the reason to come, and the exterior rewards a slow look, letting the eye move between the Gothic outlines and the Art Nouveau detail. The church is dedicated to Matthew the Apostle and holds category A listing, the designation Historic Environment Scotland gives to buildings of national or international importance.
