When the Caribbean Premier League began in 2013, Saint Lucia was among its founding islands, and the team now known as the Saint Lucia Kings spent more than a decade chasing a first title. That wait ended in dramatic fashion in 2024, when the Kings beat the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final to give the island its maiden championship.
Their home is the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet, named in honour of the St Lucian who captained the West Indies to two men's T20 World Cup triumphs — one of the most beloved figures in Caribbean cricket. The ground holds around 13,000 and was the first international venue in the Caribbean to install floodlights, pioneering the day-night cricket that the CPL has since made its own.
