Chur bills itself as Switzerland's oldest town, with a history stretching back 5,000 years and a walkable old quarter of shuttered townhouses, fountains and narrow lanes around the cathedral. It's the capital of Graubünden and functions mainly as a transport hub and gateway, the place where you change trains for Arosa, St Moritz or the Bernina Express rather than a destination people linger in for its own sake.
The sights themselves — a cathedral, a few museums, some Roman foundations — can be covered in half a day, and the town empties out early in the evening. What it does well is convenience: good rail connections, mountain scenery close by, and prices generally lower than the resort towns it feeds into. Stay near the old town or the station, since everything worth seeing is within easy walking distance and you'll want quick access to onward trains.
