Hotels in Fiumicino

Fiumicino is best known as the site of Leonardo da Vinci airport, Rome's main gateway, so be clear from the start: this is an airport and fishing town at the mouth of the Tiber, thirty kilometres from the capital, not Rome itself. What it does have is a genuine working fishing fleet and, along the canal, some of the best seafood restaurants in Lazio, including the Michelin-starred Pascucci al Porticciolo.

Imperial Rome built its harbour here too — Trajan's hexagonal basin and the ruined port city of Ostia Antica sit minutes from the terminal. It makes an easy first or last night before a flight rather than a holiday base in its own right. Stay near the harbour and canal on Via della Torre Clementina for the seafront and the seafood, with the airport a short taxi away.
