Hotels in Herndon

Herndon exists chiefly to serve Washington Dulles International Airport, a few miles down the road, and the tech offices that cluster along the Dulles Corridor. The town itself has real bones though: a walkable historic downtown built around the old railway depot, now a small museum honouring Commander William Lewis Herndon, and the 45-mile Washington and Old Dominion Trail running straight through it for cycling and walking.

A few minutes away in Chantilly, the Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Center holds the Space Shuttle Discovery and a retired Concorde under one roof, easily the best reason to detour here. Washington DC's museums and monuments are a 40-minute Metro or drive away, since Herndon itself is a business base rather than a sightseeing destination. Stay near the historic downtown depot for restaurants and the trail on your doorstep.
