Hotels in Markópoulo

Markópoulo is a small town on the Mesogeia plain in eastern Attica, best known locally for horse racing at its hippodrome and for the vineyards that supply much of the region's wine. It's not a destination in itself for visitors chasing Athens landmarks like the Panathenaic Stadium, the Lyceum, the Benaki Museum or the National Garden — all of those are a proper drive away, on the far side of the city.

What Markópoulo does offer is proximity to Athens International Airport, making it a practical base for early flights, layovers, or travellers renting a car and exploring the Attica coast and Mesogeia wineries rather than the Acropolis. Be honest: there's little to walk to in the evenings beyond local tavernas, and public transport into central Athens takes real time. Stay near the airport-facing edge of town if your priority is an easy, low-stress start or end to a flight.
