Hotels near Leinster House

Pale stone, tall sash windows and a pedimented centre give Kildare Street a calm, symmetrical front here, a textbook piece of Palladian design from Georgian Dublin. Richard Cassels designed Leinster House for James FitzGerald, Earl of Kildare, who later became Duke of Leinster and gave the building its name. Today the house is the seat of the Oireachtas, the Irish parliament. On Kildare Street it stands between the National Library and the National Museum, whose matching domed entrance buildings frame the forecourt, while the garden front looks out across Leinster Lawn to Merrion Square. Seen through the railings, each front shows the same measured Georgian order in stone and glass.
