Hotels near Dublin Castle

A squat round tower of dark stone, the Record Tower, holds its ground beside the brick and stucco ranges of the castle, a medieval survivor wrapped in later Georgian building. Dublin Castle sits off Dame Street in the city centre, and its construction was begun on the order of King John. Beside the tower stands the Chapel Royal, a Gothic Revival building whose exterior is studded with carved stone heads. On the south side of the castle, the Dubh Linn Garden takes its name from the Dubh Linn, the dark pool that gave Dublin its name. Paths cross its round lawn in a curling serpent pattern, and the Chester Beatty Library occupies a building at the garden's edge. A slow circuit of the courtyards shows how each age added its own layer of stone and brick. Dublin Connolly is the listed station for the area, and Dublin Airport serves the city.
