Hotels in Al Fahidi, Dubai

Al Fahidi is the Dubai that predates the skyscrapers — the old wind-tower neighbourhood of narrow lanes, coral and gypsum buildings, the Dubai Museum in the old Al Fahidi Fort and the dhow wharfage still lined with wooden boats loading and unloading cargo in the traditional way. The abra water taxis across the Creek are 1 dirham. Far cheaper to eat here than anywhere else in the city; the Iranian and Yemeni restaurants around the souks are outstanding. For travellers who want to understand the Dubai that existed before the glass towers arrived — and who prefer walking ancient lanes to riding escalators in malls — Al Fahidi is irreplaceable.
