Hotels in Ribeira, Porto

Ribeira is Porto's riverside heart and the postcard image of the city — a UNESCO-listed strip of medieval houses in tilework and terracotta clinging to the Douro gorge, with Dom Luís I bridge looming and the wine lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia shining across the water. Hilly, photogenic and increasingly hotel-dense, it's the obvious base for first-time visitors who want the iconic Porto experience on the doorstep. São Bento station and the Bolhão market are walkable. The streets are steep (pack sensible shoes) and tourist restaurants thick on the ground — but the setting at dawn or dusk is genuinely extraordinary.
