Hotels in Kawasaki

Kawasaki is the long industrial city wedged between Tokyo and Yokohama along the Tama River. To most visitors it is a commuter town with factories and refineries lining the bay. That reputation is fair, but it undersells a few genuine draws. Kawasaki Daishi is one of the Kanto region's busiest temples, especially at New Year, and the lane leading to it sells traditional candy pulled and chopped in front of you. Kanayama Shrine's Kanamara Matsuri each April has become an internationally famous and cheerfully unashamed fertility festival.

The Fujiko F. Fujio Museum, dedicated to Doraemon's creator, sits out in the leafier Tama ward. Most people stay here for price and logistics rather than charm, because Haneda Airport is just across the river and central Tokyo landmarks like Tokyo Station, Shibuya and Tokyo Tower are a short train ride away. Stay near Kawasaki Station, where JR lines run into Tokyo and Yokohama and the Keikyu line runs to Haneda, with plenty of shopping and food right outside.
