Hotels in Bairro Alto, Lisbon

Bairro Alto is Lisbon's nightlife capital — sleepy and shuttered by day, then transformed after dark as crowds spill from a warren of tiny bars and restaurants into the narrow streets. Above it, the São Pedro de Alcântara viewpoint offers sweeping city views. It suits younger travellers and night owls who want to be at the centre of the action, with Chiado's shops and the river a short walk downhill. Light sleepers should look at neighbouring Chiado instead, as the streets stay loud late. For Lisbon after dark, this is the place.
